I have a Merc 470 engine and the voltage regulator (a wierd looking, water cooled device) has overheated and died. I would like to trash the whole "flywheel/stator charging system" and convert to a more conventional alternator set up. Is there an affordable way to do this? Does anyone make the needed mounting brackets? Can the v-belt be driven off the flywheel or is a new pulley required? Please help! Mercruiser 470

Their is an aftermarket kit to replace everything. Price varies so look around.

Hi Trent!
Thank you for responding to my question. I sincerely appreciate your efforts! The whole charging system that Merc uses seems primative at best.
Charley
