mercruiser 470 trouble getting on the plane after launch

i have a 79 galaxy with a mercruiser 470. when i launch the boat and get out of the no wake zone i get on the throttle a little it lifts the front of the boat up in the air, way up if you open the throttle up but your really not going anywhere even at wot it just cavitates really hard. after doing this for a minute or two the front comes and it hops right up and starts moving. and after that even if you stop you can nail the throttle and hop right on the plane no problems at all. i just doesnt make any sense to me why it would do only on the first throttle up. i put the trim down the same every time i start it up. any thoughts would help thanks

if its running to rich during warm up i guess it could need the extra time on the 1st wot to clear its throat?

I'm rebuilding my engine, and I found that someone took out the thermostat, so my engine takes longer to warm up. My boat did the same thing...taking forever to get on plane, but that happened every time.

you might be right, its just weird cause it only does it once when you first go to take off then never again during the trip, the engines rpms come up, but it doesnt move the boat very fast. it comes out of it.

idk today when we took it out same thing today, but it kept missing when you would try to throttle up but if you feathered it would rev up. it never did this before, it would cough and then go, we had it ideling for quite a while because my husky friend broke off the ladder today when he tried to climb back aboard from tubing. not fun we couldnt get him back aboard so we towed him to shallow water and he jumped back in but when i went to go again it really bogged down, and it seemed like it used alot of fuel today compared to normal,
