Hey guys! Back again, I got all my trim, and ignition system problems worked out finally. The engine now fires right up and idles smooth. It shifts and accelerates in forward with no problems. It shifts into reverse fine, but once I try to give it some throttle the engine stalls. Not sure if its related but the throttle control moves about a quarter of the way to shift into gear, then it will accelerate after that. Its a 79 mercruiser 470, 190 hp with a MC-1 pre alpha drive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Mercruiser 470 Engine Stall In Reverse

sounds like a misadjusted/worn out shift cable or a problem with the control/remote shift cable

have a helper shift/accelerate the boat while you watch what is happening at the enigne mounted shift plate assy, pay close attention to the shift interrupt switch - it should only engage when shifting to neutral, not when shifting into fwd or rev or when accelerating
