I found a Mercruiser (470 model) motor, not sure of year, the serial number on the valve cover 5673944 ,
the number on the motor is 6673944 . Can you tell me the year. What is the aprox. value for a running 470 motor?
This 470 motor has a closed coolant system. What can you tell me about this motor, good or bad? I would like to prep. motor for startup, and see how it runs, check compression, ect. I will clean/gap plugs, drain the old oil put in fresh (what oil can I use for this motor? I will change again after running motor up to flush out any sluge). Change fuel fliter, top up coolant.
I will conect a gas line from a portable tank. What other checks, ect. should be done before starting? When I turn the key do I open/close the carb. throttle? Is a hose to be hooked up somewere?
