I have a 1996/7 mercruiser 4.3lx. I have a new coil, distributor, wires, fuel filter, fuel pump and fresh gas. I have also rebuilt the carb. I have the timing set to where the manual says it should be and the idle screw and fuel mix screws set to where the manual says. My problem is that the boat will idle great and operates great with minimal throttle. When I apple power it will get the point where it is about to plane out and the engine will quit. If I try to restart right away it won't unless I pump the throttle. If I pause for a a few min that then crank it will then start and idle perfect again until I try to add power. It repeats this every time. It seems as though it loses the fuel supply. I also replaced the fuel line from the tank to the fuel filter and replaced the vent line. I also by passed the fuel line check valve. I am running out of ideas as to what is going on... Help please.

id start with checking fuel pump pressure between the fuel pump and the carb

Agree with stikboyy, your probably running out of fuel. Check the antisiphone valve on top the tank which the rubber fuel line is attached to. Could also run the motor from a gas can to see if the problems go away

Check that the oil pressure switch (that powers the fuel pump) is working properly. Check it's resistance (or the voltage drop across it) with the engine running. Both should be zero.
