mercruiser 4.3 MPI - Fuel problem ?

My brand new Mercruiser 4.3 MPI is acting like its suffering from fuel stravation, it keeps dying on the power than regaining then cuting out.<br /><br />I have changed the filter, cleared the fuel lines, drained the tank and no joy,<br /><br />any tips?<br /><br />Cheers,<br /><br />hugh

Sounds like it is time to do a pressure test at the fuel rail. That will help determine if your fuel pump or regulator are weak.

You need a fuel gauge and the proper adapters to hook up to both the low pressure and the high pressure test areas. You will also need a diagnostic tool to find out if any trouble codes have been set in the ECM. <br />You also MUST have a Mercruiser service manual for your engine serial number to properly diagnose the MPI system in an orderly manner. There is just too many things to check to just jump from one suggestion to another.<br />You can check the basics, like fuel filters, checking for blocked fuel pickup, blocked vents, checking sparkplugs and tuneup etc. But to get into the diagnostics you need a manual.<br />Besides that you said it's a BRAND NEW engine.... Warranty should cover it unless you have water in your fuel.
