Use a place like this one to find the part numbers
Motor http://www.mercruiserparts.com/4-3l-...262-v-6-1998-1
Outdrive http://www.mercruiserparts.com/alpha...and-up-0l10004

BAM sells OEM but so does many others. Find the part number and then google "mercruiser (part number)"

Ayuh,.... Most often, I look up the part numbers, 'n prices, then call my local Merc Dealer, 'n order what I need,.....

The prices are the same, 'n my local guy needs to make a livin' too,...
He'll be more apt to help me out if needed someday as well,....

100 percent agree with local guy making a living, my local guy is 50 miles away.
Will say there are Merc dealers on ebay which sell the new parts for less then the local dealer does including BAM.

Also have to pay attention that there are others selling new old stock parts. Just ought external water pump assemblies and are dated coded Nov 2015

I believe you need #25 Service Manual for your engine.
http://boatinfo.no/lib/mercruiser/ma...cruiser25.html

And #14 for your drive
http://boatinfo.no/lib/mercruiser/manuals/mercruiser14.html

Know what you mean about figuring out parts sources. It always takes a while to develope OEM sources and acceptable aftermarket sources. Some parts are only available from Mercruiser. Other parts should only come from Mercruiser for good results - example there is the rubber bellows kits. The Mercruiser ones not only go on easier but results are a lot better with the more expensive up front Merc parts, but better value in the long term.

Depending on where you live you may be able to get great Merc parts locally. I live 100 Miles from the nearest Merc dealer, so I let UPS do my shopping most times. I have gotten great service when I need assistance calling the guys at PerfProTech.com. But find your own source, this is the parts diagrams for your motor: https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury-...-thru-0w300012

This should be the parts diagrams for your Alpha1 Gen2 drive:

As you get to working on your boat, ask away here if you want ideas on which parts would best be OEM and which can be aftermarket. Don't forget, iBoats is a retailer, they give us these forums as a way of generating business. They have a great selection of parts and should be one of your prime sources.

Just a question about the risesr, it looks like there is 2 riser, one with 3 inches and the other one 6 inches, how I determine which one is the correct, maybe measure where the exhaust elbow hose is attached?

Ayuh,.... Most boats don't use riser blocks,....

They're for deep motor installs,....

If yer motor has 'em, use whatevers there now,.....

So there is no raiser, it should be then ELBOW ASSEMBLY, Exhaust instead. Take a look to the actual part in my I/O

just a dummy question about plugs and screws.. are they are reusable?? I know about the screws dont look any trouble but not sure about the plugs.. just saying

This a salt water boat? Doesn't look like it.

When you pull it apart you need to inspect the riser and the manifolds really carefully. It may just be a poor fit and or a bad gasket leaking. You can file and sand block the mating/gasket surfaces between the two, make them perfect and continue use without issue as long as there are no cracks or big rust damaged areas. Pop the risers off and get a look at things. (note: pull the manifold drains before removing the risers or water will end up on the exhaust valves and in the cylinders)

Post pics of what you find.

Merc IS calling that an exhaust elbow on that year's parts diagram - I had always called it the riser. The elbow is next further back, then the Y-pipe. Riser may have lift blocks on them as well, yours does not..

You don't have risers, they are the blocks on the right of the pic.

Agree with Rick, drain then take the elbow off and have a look. Bolts and plugs can be reused if they are undamaged, but if you do need new ones, they come with new plugs

I will take it apart tomorrow and will post pictures (like pics) about the findings, hope the exhaust elbows and manifolds still good for a few years. Better to buy gaskets than complete assembly šŸ˜…

Last owner told me he used this boat on salt water
