You probably have a bad oil pressure switch (NOT sender) . It operates the fuel pump when the engine is running. The fuel pump gets power from the starter when starting, that is why it will restart.
See diagram below. Item 5 is the switch. A quick test would be to jumper across the 2 terminals. With the ignition switch in the run position, you should be able to hear the fuel pump run.

have a 2002 mercruiser 4.3 alpha (carburated)
ran fine last night to the restaurant, when we left to go home, it started, died after about 15 seconds, got it started again ran for about the same, seems to be a fuel delivery problem, it would idle fine but the more you advanced the throttle the sooner it would die.
this went on for about 10-15 minutes, then i got it to idle for about 5 minutes, and it took off and ran fine after that.,, i think it was too cool for vapor lock (about 70 degrees,) fuel filter? or what else??
thanks in advance i hope....

Did you find the problem?

Wow I used to have some what the same problem with my 98 Volvo 4.3LX. We would stop the boat with a hot motor to get out in the water (probably cause the wife had to pee :) anyway after sitting for a while maybe a half hour. If we would throttle up hard when we took off it would be like running her out of gas. then we would sit for a while cranking on the sarter until the gas line filled back up. Drove me crazy. If however we took off and idled for a while everything was okay. If I stopped for a short period of time it didn't do it.

It acted like I had a crack in the gas line and the gas would drain back into the tank so if I took off to quickly I ran the Carb & Filter out before the fuel pump caught up. But I never smelled gas nor did I see any ever.

I don't know if the problem still exists I couldn't find a probelm, I just changed the way I take off - more slowly - maybe it too is the oil switch
