Just curious what a normal operating temp is? I'm pretty sure last season I was between 160-190 consistently. Today I took the boat out for the first time. Pulled a couple sets and then was wot for about 5 minutes and noticed my temp at 200-210 so I backed off. We at dinner for about an hour or so and the 10-15 ride back it was still at 200 at only 3500 rpm. I've had the boat two seasons so I know I'm due for an impeller. You think that could be it? I have a little rust around the manifold riders, could I be looking at replacing those in the near future?

Also off subject, what is this top gauge for?

normal operating temp is usually 143 for a carbed engine and 160 for efi, if you post the serial number of your engine someone can verify for you

the temps you are seeing are definitely high, time for a water pump/impeller inspection/replace

the guage in the photo is oil pressure

Wow! Then I've definitely been high for carbed. I wont be running again until I change the impeller.

Heres the serial number

Isn't that pretty low oil pressure for an idle after about 5min?

Does it go any lower after more time?

While 20 psi is within a working range, under normal conditions you typically would see it a bit closer to 40 until really warm.

Time for an oil change and a new impeller to start and you may as well do a full tune up before any other problems show up anytime soon. Using A straight weight 30 or 40 oil may be best for your engine.

200 + is pretty hot and you should have been hearing an warning alarm, if not you need that fixed as well.

Hopefully you did not do any other damage to your rubber components throughout the engine and transom assembly or your shift cable from overheating.

No warning alarm, not sure if it has one. So impeller change and oil/oil filter. Any recommendations? 5w30? Synthetic or regular? Oil filter brands?

I know it wasn't smart but I was just watching the temp ga. uge I didn't check that gauge on the trip as much. What should I look for?

Our river is real low at the boat launch I heard a clunk like we hit bottom or something hard but I saw no.damage or.scratches. it ran good for a wakeboard run, two wakesurfs and a tube. Plus about 10 min almost wot ride. Although it did feel like it hesitated one the last turn around to retrieve the tube.

You will want to make sure you have a horn and it's working correctly. Also it would be a good idea to inspect or replace your thermostat and related parts and gaskets. You want to be sure you are using an OEM mercruiser gasket between the intake manifold and thermostat housing. The OEM gasket has two brass rivets that go through the gasket to complete a ground circuit so the temp gauge and warning horn will work properly. Gasket OEM #27-530451 http://www.mercruiserparts.com/showSpecialPicture.asp?pn=530451 Or the complete kit number 807252Q5. The gasket goes on dry. Also try a search of how to test the Mercruiser warning horn system.

Your OEM oil filter number is 35-866340Q03 or,

MerCruiser #'s 14957, 35-802885T & 35-866340Q03

Wix # 51061

For engine oil, any good name brand will do like Castrol, Shell Rotella, Chevron Delo 400 30w engine oil for examples.
