I bought a new throttle lever assembly for my carb since the old stud broke off the old one. I'm trying to figure out the size of the nut that holds the throttle cable to the stud. It's part No. 3302-810928. I've tried 1/4-20, 10-24, and 10-32. Is it a #12? M5 maybe? Or is it a "special" nut I have to order?

Don't actually know what it is but my guess would be 1/4-28, but it is just a guess.
If all else fails just google your part number, I have found them as low as 4.30 each. That isn't cheap but it is obtainable.

The part number you found holds the lever assembly to the carb which is item number 35, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...rcarb)+0C856559+Thru+D447414++&+0D836076+&+Up

To hold the cable to the lever assembly, you should of needed part number 11-20190 --NUT, (#10-32) item number 17, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...=1604&bnbr=110&bdesc=Fuel+Pump+and+Carburetor

But since you've bought a newer throttle assembly, AllDodge may have you heading in the right direction as some of the other engine models use part number 11-8267089 NUT, (.250-28)

To test the size, try using one of the nuts that holds the shift cables to the shift plate assembly as they're usually the same size on the later engine models. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...png&inbr=1604&bnbr=170&bdesc=Shift+Components

Fun times you were correct. The nut was #10-32. There was a little paint on the threads from where I accidentally got some on while painting. I chased the threads and the nut went right on. #10-32 is definitely the right size for throttle cable stud on throttle lever part 3302-810925.
