I have a 1976 165 straight 6 Mercruiser that was originally setup with a sigle wire alternator. I have a spare 3 wire alternator that I would like to replace it with. Is this at all possible without rewiring the whole system, if so, how? I have tried hooking the WH wire to a switched hot and the RED battery but this does not seem to work....I know this alternator is good as I had it tested. Any comments or replies would be greatly appreciated.
