Mercruiser 3.0....

I am just full of questions today <br /><br />Does this engine use the same block as the 170hp and 190hp engines with the 470 block? I think I know the answer but just want to make sure<br /><br />TIA<br />kidwell

no, the 3.0l mercruiser is a gm block. the 479 is a mercruiser made block with a ford head.

Actually its a aFord 460 cut in half, same bore and pistons, the head is the same except for the water inlet, port side of head .
