why did mercruiser replace 32-861635 with 32-862325 the only difference seems to be a hose barb added, any idea where that is supposed to be plumbed to or its purpose? I was unable to find anything searching iboats or google.

Maybe Fun Times might know, but I'll take a guess that it might have something to do with winterizing. That extra piece on there may be removable to allow air in. Might also be used to get it up off the manifold to cut down on heat, just guessing

From your previous thread discussing open/closed cooling, that is the new part which Merc calls out, just don't know why they changed it.

Edit: it could also be because they stopped making the one

Not exactly air but the drain system they use on that engine. I can only imagine why somebody needs this hose. The real funny part is the fitting faces up!

AllDodge has it correctly as that hose design is for an drain winterizing system starting with serial numbers (Thermostat And Hoses(Standard Cooling)(S/N: 0L341000 And Up), http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/s...30905/4893/160 ...
http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/s...30905/4893/150

And the best I can tell, the numbers have not actually superseded to any other, as item number 14 would of been the hose you needed.... They just stopped making the molded hose.:( http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/s...30905/4893/150

If you go back to an earlier engine model (Thermostat and Hoses(S/N: 0L340999 And Below) Item number 16 is a non molded hose that you should be able to make work if desired... #16, HOSE, (44.00 Inches Bulk), Transom Plate To Housing http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/s...30905/4893/140

If you want a new molded hose then it looks like Sierra came out with a new design hose without the drain fitting system part number 18-44092, http://www.sierramarine.com/pdfcatal...alog00684.html
which surprisingly is not available through iboats but can be found elsewhere online with 3 in stock....They also claim they have over 10 in stock of the OEM part number 32-861635.

EBay has two from Sierra as well,
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw...44092&_sacat=0

If you have power steering on your 3.0 Merc Alpha, then all this info changes...

Man, I can't thank everyone enough for all the great info. I'm very good with my google-fu but I just don't have enough knowledge yet to figure everything out. I'm thinking at this point I'll get the Sierra part without the drain fitting unless the drain fitting is helpfull which nobody has indicated :)

And on my customers I recommend removing the 3 and 7 point drain systems to prevent cracked blocks and manifolds from not draining

If you don't have the drain system already installed, no need to start going there now.;)

Agree, he does not have it now, just the straight forward 3.0 with multi drains
