Mercruiser 3.0 litre/130hp. shutdown

I have a 1998 Searay with a 3 litre(4cyl)I/O. Engine starts just great,idles O.K,and will rev fine in neutral.It also runs fine under load at low rpm's, but when acceleration is demanded,engine starts to faulter,then quits. It sometimes restarts O.K, but will fail again whan speed required.Have checked and replaced fuel filter along with screen at carb, but no success.Ignition is solid state distributor.....any suggestions.----Kent
