Hello All,

Does anyone have pictures of the back of the engine? Different angles would be awesome. My boat is winterized and inside indoor storage and unable to get at it and take my own pics. This would be greatly appreciated. I've purchased a borescope to inspect the engine once back in the water but would like to have pictures for reference. Miss being on the water so bad. Hope everyone had a great Christmas holiday and all the best in 2024. Happy Boating

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,..... That motor has been in production for better than 50 years, so you'll have to narrow down just what vintage yer's is,...
A serial number is best, or at least the vintage of the boat it's in,.....

Sorry, totally slipped my mind. It's a 1991 Monterey so guessing 1991 motor the serial numbers aren't legible unfortunately. Thinking the water leak is coming from the exhaust at the back of engine... doesn't seem to be alot of possible spots for the water to leak from.

How did you last winterize?

Just bought the boat, was put once and there was a water leak from back of engine. Wasn't alot but still a leak. I winterized it this year with pulling the two drain plugs and then flushing with antifreeze through the hoses from the thermostat connection and also the water inlet hose.

Look under the manifold for a crack in the engine block

If the core plug was pushed out, the block is most likely cracked

You may get lucky and it's just a leaking exhaust system.

May have to pull the motor to check

I purchased a borscope to be able to check in the spring. That's why I wanted to see the back of a 3.0 L merc to see what I will be looking at.

Did you pull the drive and inspect the bellows, u-joints and alignment? A leaking bellows will also leak water into the boat. And rust up your u-joints
