A few weeks back I was attempting to start and got a click-click. When I moved the throtle back and forth the starter finally turned over. I sent it to my local mechanic and he said it checked out ok. Probably a dirty connection he said. Today, I went to start it and nothing. No horn, no guages. Then, I wait 20 min and everyhthings normal. Battery is OK. Any ideas? 1995 Merc Alpha 1 3.0. Thanks in advance.

Re: MerCruiser 3.0 Electrical Issue

What wires and switchs did you play with in the 20 min wait time:D It sounds like the first thing to do is start wigglen every wire you can find from the engine up to the helm with something on you can watch like the key/ gauges blower ECT, Or have some one watch the gauges for you while you are looking at them. The first one to look at should be the big round black rubber wire plug that comes from the back of the boat and plugs in to the engine called the 10 pin connector, It might have a hose clamp on it shake the heck out of it with the key or engine on and see if any thing dies, That is the main wire harness to the dash. Also make sure the kill switch is 100% up or pushed in, It could be going bad and it will some times turn off the dash power, Also make sure the kids are not playing a game with you and hitting that switch:):D I hope this helps good luck.

Loose, corroded or dirty battery connection or battery cables. Check both Positive and negative cables and check BOTH ends of each cable.

That was my first suspicion...kids messing around.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the 10 pin and the kill switch.
