Re: Mercruiser 3.0 Crank Pulley Installation Instructions?
Thanks Don. Ive been building car motors for years, some for racing, and it's a big no-no to drive the harmonic balancer on with a malet or hammer as it damages the thrust bearing (number 3 main in this case). I'll go with the manual on this one. My SELOC had no reference to this part of a rebuild. You're a valuable asset to this forum, Don. Many thanks!
Bond-o: my valve cover and serial number say this is a 3.0. The machine shop I have my work done at said the same thing based on the head and block. In 1983 I was told that this is the way the 3.0's came, so that's why I say it is a 3.0 (based on the cu in displacement of the head to cylinder). If it is a 2.5, then it is. I'm not sure about these small chevy's as my experience is with performance 5.7 - 7.4's. Although I do know the "Iron Duke" was a favorite in the Fiero's in the 80's. And they were bullet proof even through all of the heat issues of the rear engine Fiero's. Thanks or your input. I'll definately do a "fluid displacement test" next time I break it down. Thaks again for your help Bond-o.
