1988 Mercruiser 3.0L, M-2 Merc-Carb. Motor pops through the carb and dies at anything below 1500 rpm. Runs like a champion at anything over 1500 rpm. I rebuilt the carb, float level good, used the spring needle, new accelorator pump. Replaced plugs, wires, rotor, cap, points, condensor.

I just had the boat given to me so I don't know how it ran before first hand. I do trust the guy and he said it ran good before he stored it outside for the summer and left the plug in. Needless to say here in Florida it rained and the motor went for a swim.

I freed it up drained and replaced oil etc...Compresion test was good so hopefully someone can help 'cause there ain't no better boat than a free boat!

Any help would be apreciated.

Thanks.

Free boat there is no such thing!!! anyway check your fuel filters One on the fuel pump and one in the metal fuel line where it enters the carb. make sure flame arrestor is clean. If it has a water separator change that filter too. How old is the gas in the tank. check all the small things first.

Check your timing. You said it is "popping through the carb". That is usually an indication of advanced timing or a very lean condition.
