I have a 1976 Mercuiser 233 that has either a cracked block or cracked head or bad head gasket because coolant in going into the combustion chamber. From what I under stand the 233 engine was just made from 1975 to 1977 Can I replace this engine with a Mercuiser 228 Does everything bolt up the same? Are all the parts interchangeable? Or do I need to stay with the 233 and locate another donor boat to keep the old girl going?

Ayuh,.... The 233 is a Ford 351 motor, so another 351 Ford long block will get ya goin',.....

The 228 is a 305 Chevy, which is completely different, 'n little to no good to ya,....

While mercruiser only used the 351 for a few years, Ford has been using it for decades

That answers the question The reason I asked was that this guy says he has donor boat with a rebuilt Mercusier 228 and claims that it is 1972 351 Ford
That's why it wasn't making sense to me While we are on the subject , so I can use any year Ford 351 block and heads and everything else should bolt up

I'm not a Ford guy... but I think the answer is "no." There is a 351 Windsor and 351 Cleveland. They are different. There might be more differences than just those two... but not all 351s are the same.
