Mercruiser 140 on a 1973 sea ray will trim up but not down.

Trim will lower with no problem if I crack a hydraulic line. The motor seems to spin in only one direction, is it possible to wire it to only spin one direction? It has an external reverse lockout valve connected to the shift cable, could this be a problem? I also pulled the pump out and tried cleaning the valve body. This old prestolite pump looks like it pumps fluid the wrong direction when I hit the down button.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sure the switch is good? I recently had the trim switch fail in my control handle. The trim would drop until it hit the bottom of the 'trailer' range, in which case it just locked up. The bad switch was sending both up and down commands at the same time.
