Hello good folks at iboats
I have recently aquired a new (for me) late 70's starcraft chiefton. It was powered by a 120 mercruiser engine, which threw a rod on test drive (and resulted in a much cheaper boat!
Luckily for me, I had access to a running 120 mercruiser that is currently sitting in a shop. This is a complete engine that can run on it's own, and I am grateful to have all the spare parts from the old one. Both bolt on to an alpha 1 leg.
My question is this: How much work is there in swapping these two engines out? It seems extremely straight-forward and I am hoping to put it in myself.
I have searched the net to try and find an example of this, but it seems hard to find... is that because it is so easy?
I have not had an I/O before, have had many outboards and have rebuilt 2-strokes before. Just for an idea on my experience.
Many Cheers,
Cody
