I found the insulation of the trim limit switch wires is hard/cracking and missing in places, so I need to find out how to replace the switch. After looking around for online manuals I didn't find any of them that referenced this old style switch on my 72 #1 drive (S/N 2901044). Here's a shot of the the upper transom assembly from outside the boat.
I can see the cover/arm that contacts the switch, but don't know what is involved in replacing the switch, all the manuals I've seen reference the new style switch. Looks like it's going to be a real bear since from what I can see, the bell housing needs to be removed to get enough access to remove the switch.
I haven't noticed problems with the switch,,, except for 1 time a few years ago the drive wouldn't go down while launching the boat.
What are the ill effects of jumpering the bullet connectors and bypassing this switch? Or am I stupid for even asking that question...
