Hello, I just greased and reassembled my mercontrol unit, it works great now. I really appreciate the info I have found here! One question though, what is the knob on the front of the control unit? When I took it apart it appeard to be electrical. When I turn it either way w/the engine running it has no effect on anything. What is it supposed to do??

Are you sure that isn't the hook-up for a Tach??

Sorry, brain fart, probably the "tensioner" for amount of resistance moving control handle.

I thought it might be a tensioner too but it has 3 wires coming from it, what are the wires for?

Hey Red, that "knob" is not. It is the tach harness electrical connector. You should not be twisting it :)

Wires are +12V (white), GND (black) and TACH signal (brown).

My first thought w/you explaining as a knob,is the friction adjustment knob for the throttle lever.
