Can anyone tell me how to get the ends of the mercontrol control cables off. I'm talking about the plastic ends that go to the motor. There's a small metal pin that fits in the end. I'm pretty sure that is what holds it on and I can seem to get it off. I want to get the cables out and clean and grease them.
Figured I would ask the question before I broke something.:)

So there's no way to remove the cable from the sheath?

Some of the plastic ends had small stainless barrell-shaped clamps. If yours has those, they can be removed.

Never seen any that was removable even on the aftermarket replacements. The above sounds like a 33 c cable with interchangeable kit...

Grease wouldn't help for long anyway. The outer casing corrodes and swells with age, which tightens on the cable. Just replace them. They are cheap. You'll be glad you did.

As it turns out, I had to anyway. The brass holder was stripped and sliding back and forth on the end. Not good. New pair ordered.
