I was working on improving my idle on my 470s (yes, the holy grail). As my hand brushed against one carb's choke, I noticed that the choke was literally loose. I removed the outer plate (dial) and could see that the two screws that hold the choke to the carb housing were not tight. Tightened both screws, reassembled the choke, started the 470. VOILA! Smooth(er) than silk. Checked the other engine's choke. Same issue, but not as loose. Tightened, reassembled, started. VOILA AGAIN! 600rpm idles on both engines; minimal shakes.
Has anyone else had this issue? With all the voodoo that folks have employed to achieve a smooth 470 idle; the notion of tightening two screws for success seems too easy.
