Brass should be of no issue so long as it doesn't spring a leak

Composite ones will soak up fuel over years and get heavier
Brass ones last forever so long as they don't spring a leak

Old school were always brass and hardly ever an issue, and if they did leak, you could empty them and solder/braze back up

Do note that the settings for composite and brass can be different heights

I did this on a mercarb for a 3.0, was not issue to install. If you look at where The factory manual tells you the measuring point on the float to set the float level - their is no compareable mark on the brass float. So as AD said the float level is essentially different. Maybe you could use the float level off a Rochester 2 bbl which is what the mercarb was developed from. The brass float supplied For the mercarb is actually from a rochester 2 bbl...

bottom line It works fine. I bought mine from mikes carb shop I bet they can tell you how to set it up properly.
