Im having problems with my carb leaking gas very bad under preasure from a hole..which I believe has a ball bearing inside right under the idle needle on the front of the carb. It leaks right out onto the intake manifold on top of the engine I rebuilt this carb with the mercury rebuild kit. But I did not touch anything in the area where it is leaking. Also I cannot say if leaked before the rebuild because the entire engine is out of a parts boat which sat for many years and I never owned it running. Is that ball bearing spring loaded and maybe perhaps stuck open. Does anyone know what going on here please helps me.

Re: Mercarb 2 barrel carb leaking gas

Pulled the carb today and this is what i found. Ontop of the intake was a ball bearing that has fallen out of this hole (red arrow) dont know if its before or after the carb rebuild but i did not change these ball bearings. But this is the hole that was leaking fuel all over. Are these ball bearing just pressed in there from the outside or what is the installation process. What could have caused this? is something wrong with the float is it getting way too much gas and forced the ball bearing out?

that ball bearing is really more of a welch plug. A welch plug is a plug designed to seal up passaged needed for the drilling of a carb when the thing was manufactored.
All though i'd never do it for a customer, you can epoxy over it yourself and just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't develop another leak.

Why am i having problems with the pics loading?

Anyway you didn't get a new ball bearing in your rebuild kit? That was a good thread wasn't it? I forgot about it.

Could it be that i have a mac?
