Anybody know where I can get the wiring harnesses for a 1979 Mercruiser 120, serial #5474115. From what I've been told they're no longer available. I need both the male and female harness from the gauges to the engine itself.

There wont be any. Never were any. Since boats come in all shapes and legnths, there is no single harness. Merc made just the engine harness, that was it.
You can esily make your own. It's not difficult.

There isn't aftermarket harnesses that will work with the Merc. engine harness? I need the Merc engine harness as well as the harness that plugs into that one.

That is the boat manufacturers responsibilty to build those. Blank stares is all you'll get from the boat builder. I've built many a harness, trust me it's really quite simple.

Phil, did the local dealer try the oblsolete part search methods on Mercnet?
I still think you should run one wire from the ign switch to the purple wire on the engine side of the Cannon plug. I would not normally suggest that, but in your case I think it will get you going without opening a can of worms.

Grant, I haven't gone to a local dealer yet. I see there's a resistance wire kit, part# 84-94227A2, still available. So, if I get this new resistance wire kit and run a new wire from the ignition to it I should be good to go...right?

IGNITION to WIRE RESISTANCE KIT to COIL.
