Does anyone know if the connecting rod bolts on a 1990 Mercury 150 HP or any of the V6 engines are of the torque to yeild type. The manual that I have says to throw out the old rod bolts but doesn't say why.

The Merc book I have starts at 1992. The rod bolts are torque to yeild, does not say anything about replaceing all rod bolts with new ones. All torque to yeild bolts are not throw away bolts.

Projectman, any 2.5 v6 with top guided rods [ approx 92 an newer] will have torque qnd turn rod bolts...these rod bolts should be changed every time they are removed....if you use them over, you will find them yeilding on the 90 degree turn at a MUCH lower torque value....the holding tension of the fastener just isnt there the 2nd time around...same with the head bolts..usually the 3rd time around you will either stretch the bolts [you will feel them 'give away' on the 90 degree turn] or pull threads out of the block....
