hi all,

just picked up a 2005 Merc 9.9 4 stroke a few days ago, hooked it up to a fuel tank today and got it running after some trying. anyone know what these are for?

I think this is for the lanyard stop switch but not 100%, it wouldn't start if it's in down position.

right now, it's kind of hard to start, had to pull 10, 15 times. plan to do the following, what other items you guys think should be done? thx

1. new plugs
2. clean carb
3. new gear oil
4. oil change, does it have an oil filter?

in near future:
5. new impeller (good stream at the moment.)
6. fuel filter

The top picture would be a button to in essence put the motor into neutral and allow you to rev the throttle, without engaging the prop. The second picture appears to be a kill switch.

How did it run when you got it going?

I would start with the fuel. Clean the carb and replace the fuel filter.
Check your spark and see if you have good spark.

Thanks for the info. It ran OK(no rough idling) but I didn't run it for very long for testing. I didn't rev it as i had it on earmuff and not in a trash can.

The plugs have considerable amount of oil on the neck, what could be the cause of that ? is this normal ?
