Merc Super 5 question

I'm looking at buying this old Merc Super 5, I'm not sure of the year at the moment, it's the dark green and silver model, I think early 50's model. Anyways I own a Johnson and an Evinrude but new to Mercs and this one looks to be a decent restoration project I'd like to cut my teeth with. Can I get some pros and cons on this particular generation of Mercs? I'm all ears so fire away!

Mike

Re: Merc Super 5 question

If the shift spring is broken they have been NLA for 20 years or more thats the death of most Mark 5 s, they were great little engines in their day

Re: Merc Super 5 question

thanks Laddies I'm hoping that's not an issue, I'm waiting on guy to get back with me about this old motor. I was browsing the oldmercs website and I was trying to determine whether it's the Mark 5 or Super 5. Thanks for reply..Mike
