Merc prop interchangeability

I'm hoping a Merc expert knows this one. Is the prop shaft on all inline sixes the same? i.e., can I buy a prop that came off a 63 100HP and put it on my 82 115HP (assuming correct pitch)? How about the V-6? Same shaft? I keep seeing props for sale that "came off" such-and-so engine and I don't know if they will work on mine. Made one boo-boo already and bought a brass prop on eBay that "came off" a model 800 (80 HP, 15 pitch). Seller stated that it would fit, but...when I open the box, it's CCW rotation...that won't work! What will this thing fit--I'd like to put it back on eBay but don't want to stick somebody else with something they can't use, so I want to say exactly what it will work on. Any comments on 2-blade, 3-blade, 4-and 5-blade?

Re: Merc prop interchangeability

I believe that the inline 6's all take the same prop. It will also be the same as the current 75/90/115/125 prop. They will be approximately 13.75 dia. +/-. The V6 motors take a bigger prop that is shared with the stern drives these are generally 14" dia. and larger. There were a couple of V6 models made with the smaller gearcase that took the smaller prop. but these are the exception. The difference is in the bullet (gear housing) diameter.

The LH prop you got on ebay would be intended for a counter-rotation motor in a dual installation.
