Merc Model 110 Lower UNit install problems

I just replaced the Impeller and now i'm trying to get the lower unit back on, but it won't slide back on. I've got the motor upside down, but it seems to be where the shifter slides in, that won't stay aligned and won't match up correctly. Anyone have any tips or tricks for this? Thanks!

With most of those with the unsupported shift shaft, if you look at the small gap at the bottom of the swival shaft is you can guide the shift shaft enough to get it started, they can be a bear at times

With the motor upside down, look in the hole where the shift shaft goes. You will see a socket there. Twiddle the shift lever slightly and you will see the socket move back and forth..get it centered and carefully slide your lower back on. You want the lower shifted into the correct gear as your shift lever also.
