No, I don't actually own one...I am trying to size up a powerplant for a project boat that used the 75H.
I don't have a very good picture of the one on the site I'm looking at, but it looks to be an in-line 3 or 4 cylinder. the powerhead looks to be 18 to 24" tall....says 75H, but I don't think it's a 7.5 because the boat ran almost 90mph with this engine.
it's a 12ft racing hydroplane.

Re: Merc Mark 75H...

The Mark 75H was based on the Mercury Mark 75, 60-cubic inche 6-cylinder. VERY rare motor to be found nowadays, although there are a few "clones" out there built from stock parts and aftermarket parts. Most of the original stock motors were converted to run on alcohol, and were generally butchered up pretty good in the process.

There's a very nicely detailed model of that motor available through Alterscale.com. Gives you an idea of what it looked like. I've only ever seen two "real" 75Hs, and several clones. If you're looking for similar power/weight for a big hydro, I'd looke for a Johnson Stinger 75 short shaft. Mate it to a Bass lower unit and you'd really have something...

Here is another option, too... the Tohatsu-Bass motor...
http://jeff55v.tripod.com/id31.html

- Scott

Re: Merc Mark 75H...

Isn't that what they said about the Yamatos a generation ago when the 30Hs were tiring out? Pull the string, go, turn left. Doesn't get any simpler than that.

I haven't seen one of the 'Tuh-crapsus' yet, but , hey, if you can outright buy an essentially new motor for a class - any class, that's good for the sport.

Saw Dave Scott a couple weeks ago - he's putting together a bunch of "new" 44XS Mercs...

- Scott

Re: Merc Mark 75H...

The reason I asked is because I want to get into Hydroplane racing, and frankly, I know little about it, but it appears to be an affordable starting point.
chinewalker, thanks for the link to the tohatsu..I found some links there directing me to exactly what I'm looking for.
