Merc 1150 inline 6 SN 641xxx, with an in boat trim pump.

I noticed my trim pump was smoking when in use so i decided to take it apart and found some serious issues. The brushes are completely gone and have worn a large groove into the commutator, not to mention caused a large amount of debris within the motor itself.

I would like to rebuild it with new parts but am a bit confused by the parts diagram if anyone has any experience with these trim motors.

When looking at pictures of new parts, the cap (392-8262) has two brushes and field/frame assembly(392-8261) also appears to have a brush attached to it. Looking at my motor it appears only one brush from the cap is used and the other comes from the frame. Is this the correct setup to follow?

Thanks for any info

It needs a seal also ...be a whole lot cheaper to buy a replacement than trying to fix.

ARCO used to make a replacement motor and upper pump reservoir assembly. Not sure if they still make it. Maybe Fleabay will have one.

However, there were two units,if memory serves, and only one had the right length motor armature. I would recommend you match 'em up.
