I have read that some Mercury Four Stroke engines have a powerhead that is made by Yamaha. I was telling this to a co-worker, and he said that all Merc engines were made by Mercury. From what I have read I tend to think that he is incorrect.

So, now I ask the Merc experts, which Four Stroke Mercs have a powerhead made by Yamaha? Does anyone have any links to help support this?

Under 20 HP the 4 cycle Mercs are ENTIRELY made by Tohatsu..Dunno 'bout bigger ones. Big 200 HP and up Verado line is a Mercury ONLY item....

115 EFIs are all Yamaha above the midsection. Other models were similarly Yamaha at the start including the 50, 75 and 90. Most have Mercury blocks with Yamaha internals now. Some use Ford cams, even on the Yamaha powerheads.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't realize there was so much outsourcing at Mercury Marine. I did know that the new Verado series is an all Merc design, as I have read several articles on this engine.

If anyone else has anymore information about Mercury's outsourcing for the 4 stroke engines, please comment. Again, I would appreciate any links that helps to explain which engines are outsourced.
