I know force has got its engines from different companies besides regular force, like Chrysler force and mercury force. My question is, Is a merc force the exact same engine as a merc? Force renaming a merc engine to use with force line of products?
Also will a 96 mercury engine cover work on a 96 force mercury? interchangeable parts?
I know this question may sound stupid to a lot of boat pros, however A lot of people argue that merc force is the same as merc, and Chrysler force is Chrysler, and plain force is force so I'm posting the discussion to find out.
Perhaps someone can elaborate why force had Chrysler and mercury build there engines? Is mercury force better then Chrysler force, or witch force is the best?
force verses mercury/ force verses merc force. force verses Chrysler force. Whats best buy or most reliable.
My opinion is the regular Mercury and Honda is best engine.

Re: merc force verses mercury engine

A Force is a force. And parts are scarce. They were owned by Mercury in '96 and use a couple Merc parts but it's still very much a Force.

If you want the whole story: There was West Bend outboards. Chrysler bought them out. Many years later in the restructuring of Chrysler Corp, U.S. Marine got Chrysler's outboard division and starting calling them Forces. Then I believe Brunswick got U.S. Marine and that's when Merc got involved. Not much sense in making competing outboards so Brunswick killed off Force.

Forces are old tech motors. Nothing particularly wrong with them other than the parts support issue which is pretty major in my opinion. As for the other brands, no one is making a bad outboard these days.

Yesssss to all of the above. Frank Ampufora (spelling) is the resident West Bend, Chrysler, Force expert. He has the answers. Per his comments and my owning 2 Chryslers, none of them are looped charged....meaning they are simple machines, yesssss, but gas burners.....in today's $4 a gallon gas.....I don't think so. Look elsewhere.
