Hi, I tried to start my engine but the key wouldnt turn probably rusted up :( . I have managed to remove the ignition switch, what I was going to do was to use another method of starting i.e using a switch. What I want to know is what what are the cables? The ignition switch is :- insert key, push key for choke, ign off, ign on and ign on starter motor. The colours are :- black, purple, red, black with a yellow stripe, yellow with a red stripe and yellow with a black stripe. what do they do? I know black is earth I think red is live but not sure.<br />Thnaks for any help

Re: Merc engine control unit

black is ground, purple is ign (key on 12v power) yellow/red is start. black/yellow is M or kill. the other M is for the black. yellow/black is choke. red is battery 12volts to the switch. normally red is fused and is sometimes red/purple.
