It would seem that the coupler on my 1980 4 cyl model 470 (170 hp) stern drive has failed. Major engine vibration, rubber smell at failure. My question after viewing many sites is, what coupler do I require? There seems to be two potential options. Is it the roundish/bulbous one (which seems to be more common)or the one the looks like a mounting flange? I'd like to have the correct coupler on hand before I start the repair job.

Freshwater cooled engine couplers are dealer only items.

Depends on your serial number which one you need. 1980 model serial numbers 5520115-6218036 takes p/n 69354A2

Hey Trent, just curious, what is the difference between a coupler on a closed system and a raw water system?

Not sure if this little tid-bit makes a diference but it is a "closed" water system. Serial # 5959556. So I will assume that 69354A2 is the part and it's a dealer order. Thanks folks.
