Merc Control Box part ? picture attached

I'm not sure the proper name for this part but I'm here to learn.

Last few times that I used my boat the button on the center of my control box that allows me to move the throttle when starting the motor was getting harder to push , I don't know what this parts called so I'm adding a picture, I'm assuming its broke because it finally pulled out in my hand.

I emailed my motor guy but I fear he is off for the winter , we got buried up here in snow.

I'm headed on a trip march 15 to warm water and I'm hoping to have this resolved.

Can anyone give me an idea of how to determine what part this is . where to purchase one . and how hard it would be to replace.

It's actually called a 'Throttle only button'.

You have a Commander side mount control box.

Download the remote control service manual from here...

Your control is under section 4B, Commander Side Mount.

You may find it's something inside the box that has caused the button to break...

It looks like you have the 'throttle only shaft assembly' out there too....

Thank you for the reply , I have another question

It appears my button is fine its the throttle only shaft that needs replacing

is it possible the diagram i downloaded is not the exact one im looking for?

it appears in the diagram the "throttle only" shaft has a "throttle only pin" through it

my shaft has no hole for a pin

it does have a metal "latch" on the opposite end of the button

I attached another picture with a better view of the throttle only shaft I have

also , is there a diagram where i can have a look at what this "latch" is connected to? There has to be another part that broke , this part here is so simple it cant be broken, I fear whatever it connects to is broken.

I was hoping it would be an easy fix ;-(

As I don't know your control box intimately I can't help you with details.... I can tell you that the box in the manual is your control box....

I didn't notice any part numbers , where do I buy parts when i find out what i need

does anyone have a clue why this part would just come out in my hand?

i see some red plastic or something crumbled when i look inside the hole the shaft slid out , so something broke inside ;-(

If you identify the parts you need I should be able to give you a part number, or your local Merc dealer, or this website .... www.mercruiserparts.com

You'd buy the parts from your friendly Merc dealer....

So what was the outcome of this problem?

I have similar issues but have yet to disassemble.
