Sorry its kinda long.

A buddy of mine has had problems with his motor 90hp Merc 2 stroke. Sent it to the shop and they said the carbs just needed rebuilt, no biggie. Got a phone call today and said they couldn't fix it. Apparently, the ethanol in the gas caused the oil line to clog. Therefore, the motor was getting no oil, just straight gas. It didn't burn a hole in the piston, but apparently it did score the sleeves and cylinder walls. What would be his best option? Try to get it rebuilt or buy another motor. I am just trying to help him and give him some options.

Well first I would wonder how an oil line got clogged due to ethynol in the gas. Only oil is supposed to be going through it. That asside I would pick the motor up do a compression test and a cylinder leak down test. If not scored to bad could be rebuilt and cylinders bored or bored and sleeved, and rebuilt.
