Merc 9.9 hp, 4-stroke, electric start

I'm running a 12' Valco aluminum jon boat (weight approx. 140lbs) with a 1986 2-stroke 9.9hp Evinrude. This motor performs very well at trolling speed and at top speed - as fast as I would want to go in that boat. However, I have a bad back and am getting to be an age when I cannot be pulling that rip cord 50 times to get the motor started. It's just too much for me and no matter how many times I have the motor serviced, it doesn't improve very much or at least not for very long. Therefore, I'm thinking of getting a new Merc 9.9hp, 4-stroke, electric start. My questions are: (1) Will the Merc go as slow as my old Evinrude for trolling? (2) Will the Merc have a top speed as fast as my old Evinrude?

Yes to both questions. If propped correctly, the new outboard should have a slightly lower idle speed.

No to both!!! Why do I say that I own that motor on a 14' semi V. At 800 rpm it pushes at over two mph which is too fast for my fish. for samon it may be fine. The rude has a lower pitch prop and it is smaller. I had a9.5 rude that got me15 mph at wot. The new to me mercury does 20. The weight is 115# quite a bit more than the rude plus you are adding a 30# battery. I will also say that any motor should start in 3 pulls for sure. Whoever you used to set it up for you didn't know what he was doing!!!! Tell me the method you use when you start your rude.
