Just put an old merc 9.8 back into service. It started fine but no water out of the tell tale tube. Removed thermostat and cleaned all tubes and passage ways with air compressor. Everything seems clear and water flows fine when I connect a hose to engine. Water pump does not seem to be pumping.. I replaced the impeller and things basically look good. Still no water flow.<br /><br />Seems close to impossible to get lower gear housing back on between alignment of drive shaft,shift rod, and water tube..any secrets to make this easier.?<br /><br />How critical is the shimmimg of the waterpump base? Could this be the problem? I took the darned thing apart twice and everything seems to be in order. Any thoughts or ideas?<br /><br />Thank you.<br /><br />Ed
