merc 850 loos crank but running

hi all !!
i have 2 merc 850 one has no fire...(long post on here about it ) but this is a new question for the running motor... by accident i just notice that the crank is loose on it and i mean LOOSE i can lift the flyweel somewhere between 1/4 to 3/8 of an inches and it s not juste the flywheel the whole shaft moves up and down..now the question is what cause that and what are the risc of ridding it like this ?

Sounds like a busted crankshaft or something extremely worn-out internally (maybe upper or lower ball bearing).

I wouldn't run it with that much slop, you're risking even more serious damage. Probably time for a teardown.
