I have 2 motors - one is a 1975 merc 650 3-cyl that’s all good except with a bad trigger. The other is a 1990 merc 600 3-cyl with dead compression but good distributor-less ignition/timing/trigger

Can the entirety of the ignition and timing be swapped from the 1990 to the 1975? Seems feasible if i can find a way to mount all the elements. the part I’m most unsure about is whether the top cap elements under the flywheel are compatible? (Stators, trigger mounting points under flywheel especially after removal of the old belt pulley on top of the crank on the ‘75)

Thanks!

First of all Merc didn't make a 650 in 1990. Those old model numbers were out in about 1980 or so.

You might check the places the distributorless stator and trigger bolt on areas. I doubt the distributor motor has those. If the pistons, rods and crank are the same, you could swap 'em over, however, that is a fair amount of work, and it might be better to bore the newer block and replace the pistons.

Nope as nothing will just bolt on. I did a 150hp BDI to ADI once and there is a lot of machine work and customer brackets needed
