Hello everybody. My name is Onno and I'm just new on this forum.
I was born in Holland so my Englisch is not so very good. (I'm sorry about that)
I bought a nice boat with a Mercury 650 (build in 1976) behind it.
A 3 cyl. with thunderbolt ignition.
It needed some work to get it running, but after that, it did.
Replaced all the electrical wiring, waterpump and more.
Good to go, yo think. But not. The day after the engine didn't want to start anymore, the stator went bad.

At our school (I'm a teacher electron) we had 2 Mercury 90hp that were given to us by a dive-school.
They forgot to put some oil in it and now the engines are dead.
But the swithbox and some other parts came in handy.
I live on Bonaire and parts are diffucult to get here.

My question is:

When you change the stator from a black one (blue and red wire) to a red one (grn/wht and wht/grn wires) and it's one that usses a "adaptor" there is only one bleu wire that can be connected to the switchbox. What to do with the connection for the red wire? Don't connect it or put 12V on it? (I heard the switcbox can be dammaged by doing that???)
Can the stotor from my engine be changed or do I need to order a new one?

Thanx, Onno.

Thank you very much.

This is the original wiring and I understand that one for 100%.
But what if you want to exchange the stator with another one like in the picture? (on the right = original, left one comes from a 90hp)
What to do with the red wire, because then there is no red one anymore.
The flywheels can't be exchanged.
Does anybody has a wiring diagram that belongs to a 90hp so that I can figure out if it's gonne work? (90hp built around orbetween 1980-1985)
I found this site: http://www.maxrules.com/mercwireindex.html
Very usefull, but I can't find the wright wiring diagram on there.
