Have you checked the spark? Sounds more like a spark issue than fuel.
Backlash

It sounds like its maintenance time.Get a manual, read the appropriate sections and:
Clean the fuel system from tank right thru the carbs.Reset float levels whilst the carbs are apart.Reassemble & do a Link & Synch.Decarb & new plugs if necessary. If this doesnt work the problem is electrical.Check plug leads.Run the engine at night with the cover off & look for sparks where they shouldnt be.Hope this helps :)

Re: merc 650 carbs

I just put a rebuilt powerhead on so I'm mixing the gas at 25:1 instead of 50:1.
I put new wires on. and checked continuity-good.
I just cleaned the float bowls and that didn't help.
100 lbs compression on all 3 cyl w/ carbs closed.
when I hold the #3 plug against a ground braid she sparks when cranking.
So if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate them.
