Anyone know how durable these Mercs are? Can a little more Hp Be squeezed out of this engine? Timing? Carbs? Port Work? Iv'e been told adding a small amount of methyl hydrate to the fuel boosts Hp. Boat is a wide body Smokercraft 15Ft Can't crack 40mph. Like a little more top speed

40 mph is plenty good speed for a 60 hp motor<br /> my 90 merc only pushes my 16 foot lund alum. 35 MPH accd to my GPS

I've got a 60 hp merc on a 116 ranger cherokee. Try putting a stainless prop on it. I picked up another 3mph with it and now it runs about 43mph. Same pitch as aluminum stock prop, (10-1/2 X 13). Had to replace carb float valves last year. Carbs were leaking gas when motor was tilted up. Also replaced fuel enrichment valve/solenoid assembly because it would stick when using electric key choke. In my opinion it has been a good motor. Keep good plugs in it and run some seafoam decarbon additive in the gas once in a while.
