Merc 50 hp 2 stroke oil injection system

I am considering disabling the oil injection system on my '05 50 hp Merc outboard and switching over to the old "mix" system. The oil injection system is working fine right now but I'm concerned it might stop working and destroy the engine. Any help in making my decision easier?

I hvae an '87 Merc 50 with a mix system...forget the name of it at the moment, looks like an add on (although it is not). Anywho, I never connected it up. I prefer to mix my own that way I'm sure what I have. Also, it makes the fuel tanks more versatile since I have 4 outboards and swap with neighbors as well.

Many say that the likelyhood of forgetting to mix is greater than the oil injection failing but I think I can remember. I disconnected mine today with the help of Laddies and I feel so much better.

Curious - was it hard to disconnect? I've been told by a mechanic that it is also necessary to remove the drive shaft for the oil injection system. Did you do that and what is your take? Also, not sure what you meant by "with the help of Ladies". Thanks for the reply. Al
