Have a 1988 5.7 260hp alfa I gen I. Had it on muffs and runs great. I took it out yesterday idles fine and ran good out of the no wake zone. After appx. 4min. running at 3,000rpm's I shut it down to idel. The engine acted as if was not getting enought gas and shut down. I observed gas on the manifold and saw a little drip from around the portside carb area. This is a 2 barrel carb.

It failed to start back up and kinda acted flooded. The battery was low and may not of had enought time to fully charge after a short run.

The engine has a new coil, wires, plugs, alternator, and cabels. I did notice after filling the gas tank the gauge is stuck at 1/4 tank I assume the float must be stuck?

I've cleaned the carb screen, but haven't changed the fuel filter this year.

I checked the breather hose it appears fine? Any ideas.....could it be that the battery was to low, or a float got stuck in the carb flooding the engine? I did pump alot of gas into the carb when it started to stall in attempt to keep it running.

I charged the battery overnoght and the engine started right up on the first crank?

http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/projectTut,p,147,00.html

Could be water in your fuel tank and now carb and filter.
When on the trailer and running on muffs, the front of the fuel tank is down and the water goes forward. In the water it goes to the back where the pickup is.
While it may be pumping into the carb, is it gas or water?????

Another possibility is the fuel pump is bad and pumping straight fuel through the clear hose into the carb. This will flood the engine, but keep the gas out of the bilge and tell you there is a problem with the pump. Look at the clear hose from the pump to carb. It should be bone dry. If there is gas in it, replace the fuel pump.

Found the problem !!!! My battery had a dead cell, and was trash. I purchased a new battery and it runs great. Thought I'd toss this out just incase somebody has same problem. Thanks for the advise guys.
